"After cutting his teeth in the experimental group Crabladder - a band influenced by the unique combination of jazz and American hardcore - The Cinematic Orchestras J. Swinscoes found himself drawn towards more sample-based sound and rhythm. The extra control given to him by technology was the key to finding the way to create the music he heard in his head - a combination of jazz from the 60s and 70s, the angularity of film soundtracks from the same era and the contemporary innovations of sample culture.

Swinscoe realized his vision, recording and producing five tracks that meshed samples and live instrumentation in London, England. All of the tracks on the album derive from live studio sessions produced after sending a variety musicians snippets of piano, bass or other melody and inviting them in to play along with specific ideas in mind.

Swinscoe also set up his own club for musicians and DJs to remake the soundtrack to a film of their choice. The film is projected while the new and already existing music plays and snatches of dialogue and sound from the original are knitted in. Ninjatune has picked up on the concept, releasing an album by the Cinematic Orchestra and putting Swinscoe and his cronies on the road."
