"Matt Drudge is often described as a new kind of journalist, made possible by personal computers and the Internet. Some people say Drudge is not any kind of journalist.
Prior to 1995, journalist Matt Drudge was unknown. Now Drudge is not only widely known, he is widely quoted and debated; as millions of Internet news junkies visit his web site each month to read his Drudge Report. Matt Drudge is also cussed and discussed in journalistic circles as an outsider and loose cannon. Aiming squarely at the corrupt and scandal plagued administration of President Bill Clinton, Matt Drudge first hit the news in 1995 with his expose of Clinton's affair with White House intern Monica Lewinsky.
According to WABC; "Drudge was raised in Takoma Park, Maryland, near Washhington, DC, where he was a 'loner' and a news junkie, a kid who grew up with talk radio as company. Matt says he was "obsessed by the D.C. culture" from an early age, adding that "The only good grades I got in school were for current events". Drudge graduated 325th in his high school class of 350. His first jobs included the night shift at a 7-11, and selling Time Life books over the phone. He moved to Los Angeles 10 years ago, and then started 'The Drudge Report' in 1995. He was managing the CBS studio gift shop and thought it would be an amusing hobby to use the Net to relay the gossip he overheard. Drudge's declared aim is to give 'the American people' the information he believes to be correct or important, and to revolutionize the media industry with a breath of fresh, young air."
