"San Francisco's Joshua Kit Clayton is a producer and DJ of electronic music which drifts from minimal and moody techno-house to abstract sound sculpture. He has been releasing music since '96 on various labels including Seventh City,
Mille Plateaux, Parallel, Plug Research, Delay, and Organised Noise. These releases have met with excellent reviews in magazines such as XLR8R, Urb, Muzik, Wax, Mixmag, and The Wire. With his partners DJ Jasper and Tang, Clayton currently operates Cytrax Records, a minimal techno label with a worldwide reputation for residing on the cutting edge. He has also started a project, The Mimic and the Model, a series in which he pairs electronic music with visual art. Clayton's most recent project is Orthlorng Musork, a label he founded with cohort Sue Costabile. Orthlorng showcases the experimental electronic music of groups like Blectum from Blechdom, Timeblind, and Fullswing.
"M-shape" and "settler rework" are featured on Repetition And Nonsense, his first project for Drop Beat. The album uses dubby atmospheres and layers of sonic disruptions that place it firmly in league with the outputs of labels like Chain Reaction and i220. The remaining four tracks come from the Latke EP, Clayton's first effort for the aforementioned Orthlorng Musork. This more abstract record would sound at home nestled in among albums from Microstoria or Christian Fennesz. While comparisons to so-called "glitch" artists may be inevitable, one of Clayton's most unique qualities is his knack for making beats that ably straddle the worlds of techno and experimental. This is especially true on "M-shape" and "Impetigo," tracks that are sure to make your head bob while keeping your brain engaged." from
