"Klaus Werner was born in Salzburg in 1967. He made his first talk on the then planned Austrian nuclear power plant Zwentendorf in 1978, and from that time onwards he became an active supporter of the ecological movement. After having completed alternative national service in 1986 he moved to Vienna to study ecological biology, and Romance and German filology (diploma). The Austrian Federal Chamber of Commerce appointed him to handle international media at the 1992 Sevilla World's Fair. In 1993 he embarked on a career in journalism, writing as a freelancer for the news magazine profil and the business journal trend (main focus on political affairs and business).

For five years from 1995, Klaus Werner was press spokesman of the Austrian Institute for Applied Ecology. He created and supervised the magazines Kontexte and Energiewende and the website www.ecology.at. Between 1996 and 1998 he also worked for the Viennese magazine Falter (politics and city features sections); in addition, he contributed articles and commentaries to Standard, Presse, Furche, tageszeitung (taz), and wrote reports for the 'Reisemagazin' on several African countries. In October, 2000, his book 'Prost Mahlzeit! - Essen und Trinken mit gutem Gewissen' was published by Deuticke Verlag and was elected among the 'Top Ten Books for the Future' by the Robert-Jungk-Bibliothek für Zukunftsfragen.

While researching 'Prost Mahlzeit!', Werner developed a concept for a book that was to name those who are responsible for unscrupulous business practices and to provide consumers with an overview of "bad" brands. Klaus Werner has been living in Berlin since November, 2000."
