Topic immigration: When europeans discuss it, they often mention countries in which they see role models as 'immigration countries'. What they often forget is that those countries (USA, Australia, Canada etc.) won't brand themself with that term. They don't even feel like that because there is a different basic mindset: It isn't about letting some 'poor people' or 'refugees' in and thus get a pure conscience, it's about enriching the own society with new facettes, talents and cultures. It's egoistic too, yes. The own society grows with foreigners, left and right wings often get that wrong. Not we and them (wether 'postive', eg "We can help them, it's better here" nor 'negative' "They don't belong here, they're different"), we all melted together, social evolution would take care of the rest.
"If liberty means anything at all, it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear.", said George Orwell (heard in The People Vs. Larry Flint, found via
FAIFE, ). In my opinion it defines a huge problem we have right now: Tellling people things they don't want to here is not very popular. No politician would do it unless it's inevitable, popular media won't do it and countless others avoid it too. So a lot of people don't hear a lot of things, hey, everythings okay anyway, just the few (or more) problems in my own life. Views are getting biased. BSE: Industrial agriculture is horrible, but please, not more than 2 for my supermarket-steak. Pension: Yeah, i'm going to get 95 years old, will stop working with 65, pay 600 a month, but don't dare to cut my pension. Innumerable examples could follow. If there would be a party that says "We're going to do our best, but we'll have to do a lot of things you will not like. It's necessary, you get transparency so you can track our decisions if you want to" i would go to the elections again and i would vote them. People can decide for themself and/or trust if they would have all the facts, despite they didn't want to hear them initially. Also via
FAIFE: "There comes a time when one must take a position that is neither safe, nor politic, nor popular but one must take it because it's right." and "Our lives begin to end the day we become silent about things that matter.", both by Martin Luther King Jr.
